Sonic Paintings

Sound Reactive Drawing Tool

Sonic Paintings is a drawing tool that uses microphone input to generate colors and stroke size leaving only the movement decisions to the user. The tool allows for unique paintings that document the sonic space as well as co-creation with technology. Each note on the chromomatic scale is assigned a color inspired by Alexander Scriabin’s pitch and color system. A pitch detector then determines the closest note from the microphone input thus changing the color.

This creative tool forces instinctual mark making taking away the ability to ponder and hesitant on colors and other decisions made while creating visual artwork. It also allows for manipulation of sound to create visual outputs.

The web-based drawing tool is compatible with mobile devices and desktop, giving users the option to save their paintings to their device.
