Sonic Communities

May 2022
Public Installation and Collaborative Album

Inspired by the way art installations and Street Pianos create social interactions in public spaces, Sonic Communities is an installation designed using Sonic Moves and Sonic Paintings that allows for playful interactions that require multiple users to engage in creativity through movement, sound, and visuals.

The combination of Sonic Moves and Sonic Paintings creates an effect similar to Alexander Scriabin’s “clavier à lumières” or keyboard of lights as the color and pitch system are consistent meaning that stepping on a red sensor on the mat will trigger the paintbrush to become red.

The sonic output from Sonic Moves is recorded into a collaborative album and with the visual’s generated by Sonic Paintings as the cover art.

The album acts as a documentation of these social interactions as well as a form of community and collaborative art.
